Photo: camp at dusk
This is one of my favorite sea kayak camps.
A small tropical island (image taken in winter) with just enough vegetation to shelter me from the wind.
Too small to have fresh water and therefore no mosquitoes or even sandflies.
The only amenity provided is this improbable picnic table that almost feels out of place in such a remote spot.
Watching the sun go down over the ocean while cooking dinner, planning for the next day paddle...
Illumination on the table provided by a candlefire

Just lovely, I assume a warm air temperature and no midges.

Warm during the day; no clothing required :-)
ReplyDeleteA light jacket at night.
Wow! Tell me about the rainfly or tarp you're using, Gnarls. It looks really interesting. You sure do get out to some remarkable places and into really fun stuff. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteMoulton, thank you for your comments.
ReplyDeleteThe tarp I am using is a DIY siliconized nylon one. It is extremely compact (the size of two cans of Coke) but covers an area of approx 100 square feet and weights 13oz.
Details on how to make one: http://gnarlydognews.blogspot.com/2009/04/shop-diy-lightweight-tarp.html
on a different note, why don't you write more of your brilliant opinions on your blog. I really dig them.
